SHELBYVILLE — An excellent second-half effort landed the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles their first District 9-4A win of the season and snapped a six-game skid.
The Eagles went for 41 points in the second half and dealt the Falcons a 60-47 loss.
Offenses were a bit slow for both teams out of the gate, but the Eagles were able to cling to an 8-7 lead after the first period.
Shelbyville went on to lead the Falcons as much as 15-7 in the first half, but the Falcons closed the gap and eventually rallied to a 22-19 halftime lead over the Eagles.
While the offense did just enough to hang within a possession through the first half, Jack Conditt gave the Eagles a huge boost in the third quarter.
He knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and added eight of the Eagles’ total 22 points.
Lincoln County hung tough and answered with 15 points to keep the score within two possessions by the end of the third.
While Conditt gave the Eagles the third-quarter boost, it was Tae’Shawn Shelton who dominated the fourth quarter.
Shelton dominated in the paint and scored 13 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth.
During that fourth-quarter run, the Eagles slammed the door shut on the Falcons with a 19-10 run to secure their first district win of the season.
The win over Lincoln County marked another sign of recent consistency with the Eagles putting at least one scorer over 20 points and multiple in double figures.
Shelton’s 21 points led all scorers, while Conditt added 18, including four from the perimeter.
With the win, Shelbyville has a chance to move up the district standings to improve its seed for the upcoming 9-4A tournament, with just three district games remaining.
On Monday, the Eagles will face Columbia, before closing out the regular season home slate on Tuesday for Senior Night against Spring Hill.
Shelbyville will finish the regular season on Friday at Columbia.
