Eagles sweep games at Mountain Valley Classic

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN —
After dropping a pair of District 9-4A games to Coffee County last week, the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles rebounded to go 4-0 in the Mountain Valley Classic, hosted by South Pittsburg.
The Eagles defeated host South Pittsburg 7-5, then followed with dominant wins against the Middle Tennessee Monarchs and Marion County, before closing the weekend with a one-run win against DeKalb County.

SHELBYVILLE 7, S. PITTSBURG 5
A three-run fifth inning and a two-run sixth lifted Shelbyville Central past tournament host South Pittsburg on Friday night.
Nick Johnson led the Eagles at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, while Kyler Trice continued his miraculous comeback after a near-fatal cardiac incident back in February.
Trice went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base against South Pittsburg.
Palmer Edwards took the win on the bump, pitching five innings and allowing four runs on five hits while striking out two.
Michael Estrada pitched an inning in relief and gave up one run while striking out two.

SHELBYVILLE 13, MONARCHS 1
The Eagles closed the first day in the Mountain Valley Classic with a stellar offensive showing and a combined no-hitter between William Bobo and Reager Edwards.
Shelbyville hammered out eight hits, but it was Nick Johnson’s three-run blast that was the biggest hit of the game.
He went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer, but drove in four RBIs.
Caden Duggin also doubled.
On the mound, Bobo took the win and gave up one run while striking out five. Edwards pitched two innings with a strikeout and neither allowed a hit.

The hot night at the plate continued in Game 3 of the weekend as the Eagles made quick work of Marion County.
Carston Williams and Nick Hopper both connected on a pair of singles to lead the Eagles at the plate.
Shelbyville closed the game with a four-spot in the top of the sixth.
The Eagles were also aggressive on the basepaths with William Bobo and Williams both swiping four stolen bases.
On the mound, Brody Lovvorn took the win on the mound and pitched the complete game for the Eagles.
He gave up one unearned run on four hits with a pair of strikeouts.

SHELBYVILLE 7, DeKALB CO. 6
The Eagles continued their aggressive tactics on the basepaths against DeKalb County and stole a total of 11 bases in Shelbyville’s 7-6 win to close the weekend.
After the Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead, DeKalb County rallied past Shelbyville, highlighted by a three-run fourth to take a 4-3 lead over the Eagles.
Shelbyville went on to drive in two runs in the fifth and seventh innings to hang on for the one-run win.
Caden Duggin went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Nick Johnson added a double.
