SHELBYVILLE — Although visiting Centennial cut the Golden Eaglettes lead to a single possession late in the first quarter, Shelbyville Central took complete control of Friday night’s non-district matchup with a 28-2 run in the second quarter and eventually pulled away for the 60-21 win.
Aside from that first quarter push by Centennial, it was no contest between the two teams.
Janiya Leslie banked seven of the 28 total points in the second period.
Six different Eaglettes scored in the quarter and the five-point Shelbyville lead by the end of the first ballooned into a 42-11 lead by halftime
Not much changed in the second half, either.
Although Shelbyville didn’t replicate the 28-point performance from the second, the Eaglettes still-outscored Centennial 18-11 throughout the second half.
Ten members of the Eaglette roster penciled their name into the scoring column, with Leslie’s team-high 13 points leading all scorers.
Jada Berry and Yasmine McFarland each hit double figures as well and finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Although Shelbyville dominated in virtually every facet of Friday night’s matchup, one area the Eaglettes struggled in was at the free throw line, going just 3-of-8 attempts at the line.
As a team, Shelbyville finished with five made treys, with McFarland knocking down a pair of treys.
