SHELBYVILLE — On a day to honor her courageous fight against cancer, Shelbyville Central honored former Eaglette Alyvia Smith on Strike Out Cancer Day with a pregame ceremony and first pitch.
Following the recognition, the Eaglettes piled on the offense as Shelbyville capped the special day with a 9-0 win over the Lady Knights.
In the game, Sammie Brown did a little bit of everything, collecting the win in the pitcher’s circle and going 3-for-4, including a double and a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first.
In the circle, she pitched four innings, giving up just one hit and one walk, while striking out five.
The Eaglettes jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and got a third run in the bottom of the third on a RBI single by Bailey Dunn.
The knockout blow came in a five-run fifth inning, highlighted by a RBI triple from Ja’mya Anderson and a NeVeah Buchanan RBI double.
Dunn was the offensive juggernaut for the Eaglettes, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs, while Lilly Brown also went 3-for-4.
Dunn pitched the final three innings in relief, giving up just one hit and striking out four.
