Historical Grave Dedication

The Volunteer-Wauhatchie Chapter of the National Society United States Daughters of the War of 1812 will be marking the grave of a Patriot, Joseph Holt, on April 27 at 1 p.m. at The Holt Cemetery on Cortner Road (Hwy 269) in Haley, Tenn.

Joseph Holt (1787-1854) was a descendant of German immigrant Michael Holt who settled in Germanna, Virginia, about 1717.   Joseph was a part of the 1st Regiment, West Tennessee Militia, which included Bedford County.  He served under Major General William Carroll at New Orleans.  Joseph married Catherine Kimbro and they lived at Haley Station (now Wartrace) and were the parents of 13 children.  Holt and 10 of his children are interred at the Holt Cemetery.  Many of Joseph Holt’s descendants still live in the surrounding region.
