The United Veterans Council of Bedford County will be having a Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 27, on the south side of the Historic Courthouse Square in Shelbyville at 11 a.m. Colonel Joe Miller will be the guest speaker. Attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chairs.
Lunch will be served at the VFW (1320 Depot Street) immediately following the Memorial Day Ceremony on the Courthouse Steps on the Square. They are Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, Salad, Green Beans, Garlic Bread and Dessert, with tea, coffee or water. Your donations will support Veterans in need in Bedford County.
Blankenship Community Church, 3602 Midland Rd., will be hosting a “Made with Love” craft fair on June 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine. Food vendors and a Kids’ Zone will be available. To become a craft vendor or for more information, email blankensipcc.events@gmail.com.

The Shelbyville-Bedford County Public Library announced its 2024 Summer Reading Program, “Adventure Begins at Your Library!” Children, teens, and adults alike can register for the Summer Reading Program and complete reading or activity challenges in exchange for prizes. Online registration will open on Wednesday, May 22. The program lasts from June 3 - July 19.
The South Central Human Resource Agency Governing Board Meeting will be on Thursday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at the SCHRA Office, 1437 Winchester Hwy. in Fayetteville. The SCHRA Budget/Audit/Appropriations, Property, and Personnel Committees will meet prior to the Governing Board meeting at 10 a.m.
The UT/TSU Extension Office will be holding canning colleges on Friday, June 7, or Saturday, June 8, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church on the Shelbyville Square.
