MURFREESBORO — After defeating Lausanne with a dominant 3-0 effort in the Div. II Class A state semifinals, Webb clawed its way to the state championship game against Knoxville Grace.
Although Webb (12-3-1) certainly has been dominant at times this season, the Feet offense struggled against the Knoxville Grace midfield line and fell 3-0 in the state championship game.
Through the first eight minutes of regulation, Webb controlled the tempo of the game and camped possession in the Grace end of the field that resulted on a handful of runs on goal.
But after settling in, Grace snatched the game’s momentum in the 10th minute from Pedro Ungarello.
Webb’s defense held strong through the remainder of the half.
The match continued its physical style play into the second half until Grace unleashed a flurry of shots-on-goal that resulted in a pair of insurance goals in the 58th and 60th minute.
Grace was consistent on its attacks on goal, recording nine shots in each half, while Webb was limited to five shots in the first half and just four in the second half.
Tempers flared for both teams early in the second half as both teams were assessed yellow cards and a red card issued on Webb.
Ahzi McKenzie led Webb with four shots.
Keeper Max Williams-Angmor recorded six saves in the loss.
