What turned out for Breanna Grooms as a fascination for volleyball at a young age has turned into an opportunity to play at the next level as the Community Viqueen senior recently signed to continue her playing career at Bethel University.
“I got interested in volleyball by my friends,” Grooms said. “We all did it in the sixth grade and I liked it ever since.”
Grooms felt comfortable with her decision to attend Bethel after a visit to the school.
“I went there for practice with the team and it was really friendly,” Grooms said.  “It just felt like home.”
Grooms played four years for the high school Viqueens and was used as a libero, a position that she will continue to play at Bethel.
“I think it was more my height because I’m not that tall and that is how I became a libero,” Grooms said.
“In middle school I was one of the best passers, so I just stuck with that.”
Grooms will be looking to move up the scale in the libero classification at Bethel.
“At Bethel, it starts as a DS libero, which is a defensive specialist,” Grooms said.  “If you’re the best out of that, you can become the libero.  It depends on practices and games.”
Grooms has continued to stay busy with volleyball before practice actually starts at the college level.
“I think practice starts a little before August, a couple of weeks before school starts so we can get accommodated,” Grooms said.
“Right now, I’m in club volleyball for MID10 in Smyrna,” Grooms added.
“We practice a couple of days throughout the week and then we have tournaments on the weekend.”
Grooms will study bio-med at Bethel which will lead her into dentistry.
