UNIONVILLE — A stellar night shooting by Viqueen junior Anna Haskins helped helped the Purple and Gold upend Central Magnet on Wednesday night, 54-46 in non-district action.
The Viqueens built a slim 16-13 lead after the first quarter, but went on to extend their lead to 28-21 by halftime.
Community then took a commanding lead with a 20-point effort in the third, sparked by Haskins’ offensive efforts.
She went for 14 of her game-high 25 points in the period.
Central Magnet relied on its 3-point shooting to keep it relatively close, but for the third-straight quarter, Community expanded its lead.
Things got interesting in the fourth when the Viqueen offense struggled to match its earlier production and was only able to muster up six points.
Central doubled up the Viqueen’s total in the quarter and went on a 12-6 run to close the game.
But even with the Lady Tigers rallying in the fourth, Community’s early lead couldn’t be touched.
Haskins shot it well for the Viqueens and knocked down four 3-pointers in the win, while Alyssa White provided the presence in the paint for Community.
White went on to finish with 15 points.
Central connected on seven treys, but struggled inside the arc against Community.
The Viqueens also took advantage of their free throw opportunities and made good on 11-of-16 tries.
