Huge 1st inning leads Champs past Cannon Co.

WOODBURY — A massive first inning powered Cascade (6-1, 1-0) to another District 9-AA win on Monday night.
Of the Champs’ 12 total hits, six went for extra bases and Cascade crushed Cannon County, 13-6.
Monday night’s meeting between Cascade and Cannon County (2-3, 0-1)is the first since the two teams met in the Class 2A sectional series a year ago, which saw the Lions advance to the state tournament.
Logan Green connected on a line drive, two RBI single to start the game on a high note in the top of the first.
Logan Pulley then drew a walk before James Magee mashed another RBI single to left.
Cascade then scored two more runs on wild pitches before a bases-loaded walk brought home a sixth run of the first inning.
A four-run fifth and three-run seventh ensured Cannon County wouldn’t muster up a late-game rally.
Walker Craig went 1-for-3 with three RBIs to his credit, while Logan Green was 1-for-5 with a pair of RBIs.
Jordan Childress finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles.
Zach Crosslin, Conner Melson, Sawyer Lovvorn and McGee all doubled as well.
Walker Craig went five innings on the bump for the Champs and struck out nine, while giving up four runs on four hits.
Crosslin pitched the final two innings and allowed two runs on two hits while striking out two.
Game 2 of the District 9-AA series is scheduled for a 6:30 first pitch on Tuesday night at Cascade.
