Johnson’s hot night powers Eagles’ 1st win

MURFREESBORO — Nick Johnson went 3-for-3 and drove in five RBIs as Shelbyville Central crushed Central Magnet in Monday night’s season opener, 16-5.
The Eagles collectively hammered the Tigers’ pitching staff for 11 hits, with Johnson collecting an extra base hit and a home run.
Palmer Edwards and William Bobo both connected on two hits as well, with Edwards driving in a pair of runs.
After a scoreless first, the Eagles plated two runs in the top of the second and only got hotter at the plate as the game progressed.
Central Magnet plated its first run in the bottom of the second, but the Eagles scored two in the fourth, four in the fifth, five in the sixth and close the game with a three-run seventh inning.
On the mound, Stephen Bobo got the nod and pitched four strong innings, giving up three unearned runs on just two hits, while striking out six.
Carston Williams worked the final three innings in relief and allowed to unearned runs to score on tow hits, while striking out seven batters.
The Eagles will be on the road again this evening, traveling to Forrest to take on the Rockets at 6 p.m.
