BELL BUCKLE — A night after driving in 20 runs on 14 hits, the Cascade Lady Champions (1-6) were held to just two hits in the 16-1 loss to the Forrest Lady Rockets in the District 9-AA opener.
Forrest made a statement, plating three runs in the top of the first inning on three hits before Cascade turned a 4-6-3 double play to end the early Lady Rocket attack.
While Forrest scored a single run in the second and third inning, before Cascade’s Alayna Cruse reached via walk for the first Lady Champion baserunner in the bottom of the inning.
But the Lady Rocket defense was able to flash the leather and didn’t allow Cascade to score.
It wasn’t until the fourth inning when Brianna Horn scored on a passed ball that Cascade was able to notch its first and only run of the game.
Following the Cascade score, Forrest closed the game with four runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and closed the game with a six-spot in the top of the seventh.
Ella Thompson and Kyndal Bolden accounted for the two Lady Champion base hits against Forrest.
After a busy week on the field, Cascade gets a bit of a break until the next district game on Wednesday, April 3 at Cannon County.

Katelyn Lambert delivers a pitch against Forrest.
