WOODBURY — Two separate four-run innings was more than the Cascade Lady Champions could overcome in their 8-3 loss at Cannon County in the final district game of the regular season on Wednesday.
Several walks and a Lady Champion error aided Cannon County as the Lionettes built an 8-0 lead by the end of the third inning.
But even trailing 8-0, Cascade didn’t go down without a fight.
After drawing three walks of their own in the top of the fifth, Ella Thompson scored the first Cascade run of the night after a Lionette error in the infield.
Cascade played add on in the top of the seventh after Thompson reached base via hit batter and then scored on a Momo Bilbro RBI double to right.
Alivia Fannin knocked in a third Lady Champion run later in the inning, scoring Bilbro before Cannon County ended the rally with a strikeout for the third out in the seventh.
Fannin went 2-for-4 with a RBI, while Bilbro recorded the lone extra base hit for Cascade.
Starting pitcher Brianna Horn gave up just four hits, but was tagged for eight runs and gave up 10 walks, while striking out nine.
