CORNERSVILLE — The Cascade Lady Champions put a cap on the Cornersville Thanksgiving Tournament with a 58-46 win over Hickman County in the tournament championship game last week.
From the opening tip-off, Cascade set the game’s tone and never let off the throttle.
The Lady Champs raced out to a 22-13 lead thanks to an exceptional quarter of perimeter shooting.
As a team, Cascade drilled five of its total eight made treys in the opening period, with Jocelyn Laughlin connecting on a pair of threes.
Hickman County closed the Cascade lead within a possession at the half and the sluggish scoring continued into the third, with both teams combining for just 16 total points in the third.
But with the game on the line, it was senior Kaegan Young who worked her way to the line in the fourth quarter that ultimately proved to be the difference in the game.
She shot 11-of-15 attempts in the fourth quarter alone to help Cascade pull away for the championship.
Just five Lady Champs penciled their name in the scoring column, but three of the five went four double figures.
Young led all scorers with 24 points, while Suzanna Crews and Laughlin added 11 and 10, respectively.
As a team, the Lady Champs shot 18-of-25 tries from the charity stripe as well.
