Lady Raiders’ big innings down Cascade

MANCHESTER — Coffee County took advantage of several walks, and paired with some timely hitting, beat the Lady Champs, 12-1, on Thursday night.
Cascade flashed the leather in the bottom of the first inning and a heads up play by Kyndal Bolden turned a 2-3 double play.
Starting Cascade pitcher Brianna Horn recorded a fly out for the third out of the inning.
Coffee County finally got on the board in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs off a sac-bunt and a score off a dropped third strike.
Starting Coffee County pitcher Lily Norman continued to roll and retired her ninth-straight batter by the end of the third.
Coffee County then blew the game wide open with a four-spot in the bottom of the inning.
In the four-run Lady Raider third, Cascade was plagued with a pair of errors and a following a RBI single and two fielders’ choices, Coffee County led 6-0 by the end of the frame.
The hosts continued to pile on the offense with three more in the bottom of the fourth.
Cascade finally got on the board in the top of the sixth frame following a lead-off single by Alayna Cruse.
Victoria Wells followed with a double to put two on with nobody out.
Cruse later scored when Momo Bilbro ground out to second.
Although Cascade still had two runners on, Coffee County left the Lady Champion threat stranded on base and the Red Raiders put a cap on the game with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Victoria Wells led Cascade at the plate with a double, while Ella Thompson and Alayna Cruse singled.
Coffee County’s biggest hit of the night came in a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.
Norman went four innings in the pitcher’s circle and struck out six batters and didn’t give up a hit.
Horn also went four innings and was tagged for nine runs, only four of which were earned. She gave up just four hits and struck out one.
Cascade will continue its six-game slate of road games next week.
On Tuesday, the Lady Champs will travel to Blackman, looking for their first win of the season.
