Leadership Bedford is hosting “A Walk for Junior’s House” to benefit the local nonprofit on March 21.
Junior’s House Child Advocacy is a non-profit organization based in Fayetteville that has been helping and guiding young children through the healing process of child abuse cases across Bedford, Moore, and Lincoln Counties.
Founded in 2001, Junior’s House has also worked closely with law enforcement in seeking justice for the children against their abusers, typically in broken homes struggling with physical, emotional, and other forms of abuse.
Councilors who help children heal from the trauma that comes from each of their cases of abuse also assist in representing them in court when they are called to testify.
“We want to bring awareness to Junior’s House and what they do in Bedford County,” Youth Vice-President of Leadership Bedford Caroline Cook said. “I can guarantee that you will learn something you didn’t know beforehand about our community.”
“Half of the cases are from Bedford County,” she added, “but we get the least funding.”
The event will consist of a walk starting at the Shelbyville Central Highschool football field, with live music and food trucks on site. Tickets to the event will cost $25 for adults and $20 for youth, which comes with entry and a t-shirt to wear in support of Junior’s House.
Check-in begins at 9 a.m. with the walk following at 10.
