BELL BUCKLE — After the Cascade Champions crushed Cannon County (6-3, 1-1) for a District 9-AA win on Monday night, the Lions got their payback in Bell Buckle in a rain makeup game on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions took advantage of a three-run first inning and held off a seventh-inning Cascade (6-2, 1-1) rally for the 11-9 win over the Champs.
Cannon County pounced on starter Logan Green and took a 3-0 lead in the first following a two RBI double in the top of the first.
A RBI single put the visitors up 3-0 by the end of the frame.
Needing an answer, Lion starting pitcher AJ Armstrong sat down the first seven Champion batters, before Thomas Demartelaere reached via error in the third inning.
The Lions played add on in the fourth and doubled their lead with an error in the Champion infield and a two RBI single to bump the Cannon County lead to 6-0.
But following the three-run Lion fourth, Cascade was able to mount a comeback and plate three runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a Bryceton Bunch RBI single that knocked home a pair of runs.
Zach Crosslin later scored when Demartelaere ground out to first later in the inning.
In the fifth, another Cascade error allowed two more runs to score for Cannon County, before the Lions were able to score three more in the top of the sixth on more Cascade miscues.
The lions added three more runs on a pair of wild pitches in the sixth to take an 11-3 lead heading to the bottom of the sixth.
In the sixth, a one-out double off the bat of James Magee set up Logan Pulley for another double, this time knocking home a pair of runs.
Jordan Childress connected on another RBI double, before Walker Craig drew a bases-loaded walk to score a fourth run of the inning.
After holding the Lions scoreless in the seventh, Childress again inched the Champs closer to a potential comeback with a two RBI single in the seventh, but a strikeout ended the Cascade threat in the seventh to even the district series.
Childress and Pulley both connected on two hits, with Childress going 2-for-5 with three RBIs and Pulley going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Green went three innings on the mound and gave up three runs on three hits with four strikeouts, while Crosslin, Sawyer Lovvorn and Dawson Youngblood all made relief appearances.
Cascade plays host in the Mid South Classic presented by Sterling Smith throughout the rest of the week and weekend.
