Shelbyville native Dr. Lendell Massengale, Jr., DDS, will be recognized by the Community Clinic of Shelbyville and Bedford County Board of Directors for his professional accomplishments as a dental provider and as a 1981 graduate of Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry.
Massengale will be one of several diginitaries recognized April 12 at the CCSBC’s “Bringing Healthy Smiles to Bedford County” GALA at The Humble Baron at Nearest Green Distillery.
The GALA will acknowledge the successful partnership with Meharry School of Dentistry.”
He is the son of Mrs. Marilyn Gipson Massengale and the late Mr. Lendell Massengale, Sr.
Lendell graduated from Shelbyville Central High School in 1973 where he excelled in both the classroom and in athletics.
He was awarded an academic scholarship to attend The University of the South at Sewanee where he received a BS in General Biology in 1977. He earned his DDS in 1981 from Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry (MMCSOD) in Nashville.
After his Meharry graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps.
He served six years in the U.S. Army Reserves and did tours of duty at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Marion County, Indiana, and Fort Knox in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Until his retirement he owned Dental Associates of West Knoxville. He serves as the director of Clinical Dental Services at Milledge Dental Partners in Knoxville, Tennessee.
As a dental professional, he specialized in preventing, diagnosing, and treating diseases and conditions associated with the mouth and overall dental health.
The goal of the GALA is $200,000 with 50 percent for CCSBC and 50 percent for Meharry.
The GALA, a semi-formal/black tie event, is scheduled from 6-to-10 p.m., includes a VIP reception, a four-course dinner and cocktails and dancing.
Individual tickets are $250. Several sponsorship levels are also included including a $10,000 Legacy which includes a table for eight, a $5,000 Platinum sponsorship with a table for eight and Gold level at $2,500 for a table for eight. Based on the level of sponsorship perks like VIP parking are included.
Special donations of $140 are being requested to celebrate the 140th year of Meharry’s School of Dentistry.
State Senator Shane Reeves is the featured speaker. State Representative Pro Tem Pat Marsh will introduce Reeves.
Also scheduled to speak are Graham and Shelbyville Mayor Randy Carroll.
