A massive black bear was hit and killed late Friday evening on 231 South, just outside of Shelbyville city limits.
According to TWRA officials, the bear was estimated to be in the 350-450 pound range.
The bear was struck in front of Tad Craig’s property.
Law enforcement officials reached out to Craig to help move the bear, due to the size of the animal.
The bear is believed to be the first killed in Bedford County.
“I’ve been to Alaska and seen bears up close and personal and that is one of the biggest bears I’ve ever seen,” Craig said.
Earlier this summer, a black bear of similar size was spotted in various Middle Tennessee locations, although no confirmation of the bear’s whereabouts were confirmed.
