UNIONVILLE — Game 2 of the District 9-2A series between county rivals Cascade and Community couldn’t have been any different than the first meeting between the two schools.
Well, almost.
In Game 1, Community saw starting pitcher Annie Prince showcase a completely dominant effort from the circle, tossing a perfect game by striking out 15 batters in five innings.
Backing her effort, the Viqueen bats eventually came alive in Game 1, and while Prince was equally dominant again, Community pushed just two runs across the plate in the 2-0 win on Tuesday night to complete the sweep.
Prince was outstanding yet again and nearly recorded her second-straight perfect outing against the Lady Champs.
She struck out a staggering 19 batters and allowed just two runners to reach base via walk.
But while Prince continued to dominate, the Viqueen bats never truly came alive, thanks largely in part to the efforts of Lady Champ starter Jocelyn Laughlin.
Although she only recorded one strikeout, Laughlin pitched extremely well, limiting the Community batting lineup to just two runs on five hits.
Community got on the board in the bottom of the second on a Taylar Wessner RBI single, scoring Victoria Wells.
A second run scored in the bottom of the third inning with a lead-off solo homer by Mattie Maxey.
Other than that, Community was unable to string together enough hits to pad its lead against a much-improved effort from Laughlin.
Of the five hits Community recorded, Maxey’s solo homer in the bottom of the third was the biggest hit of the night, while Anna Haskins al

so went 1-for-3 with a lead-off double in the bottom of the fifth.
