For the first time in its history, teams from Unionville, Rockvale, and Shelbyville came together to form a Fall League for boys’ baseball and girls’ fastpitch softball at the Daisye Musgrave Hulan Park. The new league combines 18 teams and stands as the first league play since 2017-2019.

On Thursday, Sept. 11, park owner, Henry Hulan hurled the ceremonial opening pitch. Organizers stated that this season may be the park’s last if the City of Shelbyville follows through with its plans to purchase the 19-acre property to construct a new fire and police station.

Historically the park has served as a hub for youth sports, hosting tournaments with more than 20 teams most weekends of the year.

Supporters wanted to emphasize the park’s future potential, being keen to note that with grant funding the city could update and maintain the fields as it does other recreation areas. They warn that the city’s already delayed soccer project may face further setbacks if the park was lost to construction.
