SHELBYVILLE — A sluggish first half was more than the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles could overcome in a District 5-4A loss in Rick Insell Gymnasium on Friday night.
The Eagles were held to just one field goal in the first quarter and Warren County got a game-high 28 points from Alex Van Vauren in the 71-45 win over Shelbyville.
Warren County opened the game on an absolute tear, knocking down four treys in the quarter, including two from Devin fish and two from Van Vauren.
By the end of the first, the Pioneers led 18-3.
That lead grew by halftime as Warren Count poured on 14 more, but the Eagles were able to scrap together 10 points, including a couple of treys from Terrance Johnson.
Still, the visitors led 32-13 by halftime.
Not much changed in the second half, as Warren County outscored Shelbyville 39-32.
In addition to Van Vauren’s 28, Treyton Terry and Fish added 15 and 13, respectively.
Johnson led the Eagles with 19 points, while Tae’Shawn Shelton chipped in 14.
