Staff Report
HUNTLAND — A 19-point fourth quarter was exactly what the doctor ordered as Cascade rallied from a six-point halftime deficit to beat Huntland 50-47 on the road on Tuesday night.
After trailing for much of regulation, Cascade cut the Lady Hornet lead to three points by the end of the third quarter with six points from Hailey Giel.
The uptick in offensive output continued into the fourth as Cascade got a key 3-pointer from Anna Clanton to put Cascade up 48-47.
Following the made 3-pointer, Huntland was assessed a technical foul for having six players on the floor and with just over eight seconds left, it was the steady aim of Sophie Ray at the free throw line to push the Lady Champion advantage to three points.
Following the made free throws, Cascade’s defense took over and didn’t allow Huntland a shot as time expired.
Kaegan Young was the lone Lady Champ to reach double figures with 11 points, while Ray and Giel each scored eight.
Ray was also a rebounding machine for the Lady Champs, snagging up 16 boards in the win.
Cascade will look for its third-straight win on Friday night as the Lady Champs entertain Moore County.
