Summertown used a late push at the plate and a steady performance in the circle to pull away from Cascade for a 6-2 win Tuesday at Cascade.
The game remained tight early, with Summertown breaking through first on an RBI single in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Lady Eagles would add another run to lead 2-0.
The Lady Eagles added another run in the fourth to extend the lead to 3-0 but Cascade stayed within striking distance.
The Lady Champions found their spark in the sixth inning when Jocelyn Laughlin delivered the biggest swing of the night, blasting a two-run home run to left field to cut the deficit to 3-2, and bring energy back to the home dugout.
However, Summertown answered immediately and decisively. A three-run seventh inning put the game out of reach, as timely hitting and pressure on the bases helped the visitors create separation late.
Shalan Burt went the distance in the circle for Cascade, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits over seven innings. She walked one and did not record a strikeout but kept the Lady Champions within reach for much of the game.
At the plate, Laughlin led Cascade with two RBIs, finishing 1-for-2. MoMo Bilbro, MaKenzie Fisher, Laughlin, MaKayla Fisher, and Caroline Parker each recorded a hit for the Lady Champions.
