I want to thank you for reading. Thank you for reading this personal column. Thank you for subscribing. Thank you for reading your local newspaper. Thank you for trusting me with your advertising. Thank you for supporting Journalism. Local newspapers are a direct reflection of the Communities they serve. Consumers rely on a diversity of print and digital newspaper platforms to deliver the local news, information and advertising that impacts their lives. 8 out of 10 Americans read print or digitally accessed newspaper content every month.
This is why we do what we do at the Bedford County Post! In July of 2023 our team was left with an abrupt loss of our local newspaper and no jobs. Our Team, along with Lakeway Publishers saw a need to serve the community with locally-produced, community-based journalism. On August 16, 2023, we produced the first edition of the Bedford County Post. Our team has a combined 160 years of experience in the newspaper business and consists of myself; Diandra Womble, General Manager; Mark McGee, Staff Writer; Chris Siers, Sports Editor; Mary Cook, Pagination and Carol Spray, Pagination.
During year one we have published 53 Wednesday editions, 26 special sections, covered four area high school sporting events to little league games, council meetings, ribbon cuttings and grand openings, church events, school functions, built relationships with new businesses and continued years of relationships from established local businesses- just to name a few things we’ve covered.
We introduced many new products to this community that were included in our newspaper: Local Living edition, Spring Home, Veterans Salute, Fall Home Improvement, 2024 Fact Finder & one of my favorites, The Bedford County Best of Bedford! We also published our highly anticipated Fall and Spring Fashion, Basketball Review, Football Preview, High School Graduation, Farming and Agriculture, Mother’s Day & TWHNC Sections.
During this past year, our team was featured as a segment on News Channel 5, shared our story with many other media outlets and nationally recognized podcasts and spoke at many local clubs and organizations in Bedford County such as Shelbyville Woman’s Club and Rotary. The power of a small town is something I have felt growing up in Shelbyville, but this community really showed out for us. I will always cherish how something so bad can be turned into one of the best experiences of my life.
Bedford County is our Home- it’s a special place for us and we are blessed to be your hometown newspaper. Thank you for your support and we look forward to carrying on the Bedford County Post and the better paper for Bedford!
