The progress on traffic signage in Normandy was addressed at the monthly Mayor and Aldermen meeting, along with next steps for the installation of street name signs. Mayor Charles Whitaker provided an update on recent challenges encountered during the completion of traffic signage.

One issue arose with a previously installed signpost, which was discovered to be improperly secured. The mayor recounted an incident while attempting to replace a sign prohibiting Jake Brakes. As he stood on the guardrail and held onto the signpost, both he and the post tipped over. Upon closer inspection, it was evident that the post had been previously knocked out of the ground, likely due to a collision. Instead of being properly re-driven, it had merely been placed back into the gravel, making it unstable. Plans are in place to correct this issue and finalize the traffic signage installation.

Regarding the next phase of sign improvements, an inventory of street name signs is set to be conducted. Mayor Whitaker admitted that due to weather and other priorities, he had not yet completed this task. However, he assured attendees that by next month, the inventory would be completed, and focus would shift to addressing the necessary street name sign replacements.

Additionally, the mayor mentioned a recent inquiry about the possibility of installing flashing LED speed limit signs, similar to those seen in some workplaces. While a promotional mailer was received from a vendor, the cost of these signs—running in the thousands of dollars—was deemed excessive for the town’s budget. While alternative, more affordable options may exist, the mayor indicated that such purchases are currently not feasible.

With plans in place to resolve outstanding traffic sign issues and begin work on street name signs, Normandy continues its efforts to enhance roadway safety and signage throughout the town.
