BELL BUCKLE — After fighting the Moore County Raiderettes through much of the first half, the Cascade Lady Champions ran into a scoring drought that ultimately proved costly on Friday night.
The Raiderettes closed the first half on a 14-2 run and kept Cascade from ever finding its offensive footing as Moore County rolled past the Lady Champs, 56-18.
The game was very much a defensive struggle through much of the first half, with the two teams only combining for 13 points in the first quarter.
Cascade went on to tie the game twice in the second quarter, but foul trouble forced Cascade to turn to its bench—and Moore County seized the opportunity.
Moore County also took advantage of several Lady Champion turnovers in the first half to help take control of the scoreboard.
By halftime, Moore County built a 25-12 lead.
In the second half, Moore County went on a 31-6 run to close the game.
In the third quarter, Moore County’s defense held Cascade scoreless from the floor as the only Lady Champion points came from Hailey Giel and Sophie Ray, who went 4-for-4 from the line in the quarter.
In total, Ellie Graham and Audrey Harder led all scorers with 14 points each, while Kaegan Young led the Lady Champs with nine points.
Cascade begins a week-long slate of away games, traveling to Jefferson County on Tuesday, before closing the week at the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic.
