UNIONVILLE — The Community Vikings scored in every inning and rode a six-run first to take command as the Vikings completed a sweep of the Middle TN Monarchs with a 14-4 win in a baseball contest Tuesday night.
After the Monarchs took a 3-0 lead on a bases-loaded double in the top of the first inning, the Vikings went to work in the bottom of the inning as 11 batters went to the plate.
A single by Josh Powers followed by a walk to Luke Davis and a bunt single by Elijah Westbrooks loaded the bases for the Vikings with none out.
Community went station to station as Drew Harris and Maki Fleming each had RBI-singles while Kaleb Maillet walked to drive in a run as the Vikings tied the game at 3-3.
Case Davis grounded out to drive in the fourth Viking run while the final two runs of the inning scored on an error and a balk as Community took a 6-3 lead to the second inning.
The Vikings added a run in the second as Westbrooks doubled and scored on an error as Community increased its advantage to 7-3.
The Monarchs made it 7-4 with a run in the third before the Vikings bounced back in the bottom of the inning.
Case Davis and Powers singled to set the stage for a two-run single by Westbrooks as Community increased its lead to 9-4.
The Vikings upped their lead to 10-4 in the fourth as Isaiah Beech singled and scored on an error.
Community scored its final four runs of the game in the fifth inning as the game ended on the run rule. A walk to Brody Armstrong and a single by Harris were followed by a run-scoring single by Fleming to give the Vikings an 11-4 lead. After Beech was hit by a pitch, Nic Evans walked with the bases loaded and Case Davis singled to right to drive in two.
Powers and Westbrooks each had three hits while Harris, Fleming, and Case Davis each had two as the Vikings pounded 14 safeties in the contest.
Luke Davis started on the mound for the Vikings with Powers and Dylan Markum in relief.
