LEWISBURG — The Community Viqueens (1-1) put the bat on the ball on Thursday night at Marshall County, but couldn’t string together enough hits as the Viqueens suffered their first loss of the season to the Tigerettes, 5-0.
After starting pitcher Annie Prince struck out two two Tigerettes (1-1) to start the first frame, a hit batter and an error set up the go-ahead score for Marshall County.
Demiyah Blackman reached base after being hit by a pitch and eventually advanced to second on a Viqueen error in the infield.
Zakiya Taylor then connected on a RBI single to drive home the first run of the night.
Aside from that first run, the two teams settled in and neither team was able to crack the opposing pitching.
Prince sat down 12 Tigerette batters in a row at one point, leading up to the four-run sixth inning by the Tigerettes.
In the decisive sixth, The Tigerettes put two on with singles by Reese Lentz and Abby Leverette, bringing Blackman to the plate.
Blackman found her pitch and clubbed a three-run blast to give Marshall County a 4-0 lead before a throwing error allowed Taylor to score for the final run of the night.
Four errors plagued the Viqueens in the loss, despite Community out-hitting Marshall County 6-4.
Prince went the distance for the Viqueens and gave up five runs, only three of which were earned, on four hits, while fanning eight batters.
Courtney Lynch also pitched well for the Tigerettes, striking out seven batters while giving up six hits, but not allowing a run to score.
Community will take part in the Zion Christian Tournament this weekend, beginning with Hickman County on Friday night.
