Viqueens busy in Gulf Coast Classic

GULF SHORES, Ala. — With a busy week of tournament ball, the Community Viqueens began play in the Gulf Coast Classic, held in Gulf Shores, Alabama on Monday.
During the first game against Gibson County, Alana Tate went 1-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs, while Annie Prince pitched a strong game as Community took a 5-2 win over Gibson County.
Prince went 4 1/3 innings and struck out nine while giving up just two runs on three hits.
Kailani Allen was 3-for-3 as well.
Community took the 1-0 lead in the top of the second and played add on with another run in the third.
Two more scored in the fourth when Tate doubled to left, before the final run scored in the top of the fifth on a fielder’s choice.

Gardendale (Ala.) 6, Community 1
One big inning was ultimately the difference as Community fell 6-1 to Gardendale (Ala.) in the Gulf Shores Classic on Monday.
Gardendale drove in four runs in the first on four hits and kept the Viqueen bats quiet through the first four innings.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Anna Haskins and Alana Tate hit back-to-back base hits.
Haylee Webb then safely reached via error, which allowed Haskins to score.
Gardendale closed the game with two more runs in the sixth inning.
Haskins, Tate, Webb and McKenzie Tucker all singled to account for the Viqueens’ offense.
Taylar Wessner pitched five strong innings for Community, scattering six runs on seven hits, while striking out four.

Spain Park (Ala.) 11, Community 2
Offense was tough to come by for the Purple and Gold against Spain Park in the third game of the day on Monday.
Community managed just three hits and fell 11-2 to Spain Park.
Spain Park plated five runs in the first inning and added two more in the second before the Viqueens got on the board in the top of the third.
Anna Haskins led off the top of the third, then scored off an Alana Tate double.
Tate then scored on the following throw.
Community continues in the Gulf Coast Classic on Tuesday.
