UNIONVILLE — The Community Viqueens could not overcome runs by the Eagleville Lady Eagles in all three sets as the Lady Eagles took a 3-0 win over the Viqueens in a volleyball match Tuesday night.
The Lady Eagles went on a 6-0 run to take a 7-1 lead in the opening set before the serving of Breanna Grooms propelled the Viqueens to five straight points and cut the Community deficit to 7-6.
But the Lady Eagles widened their lead with four consecutive points and used some Viqueen miscues late to extend their advantage and win the set 25-13.
The Viqueens got off to a better start in the second set and were tied at 5-5 before Eagleville once again scored six straight points to go ahead 11-5. Community was able to get as close as 15-12 before the Lady Eagles used their net play to score 10 of the last 12 points en route to a 25-14 win.
After a 5-0 run gave the Lady Eagles a 6-1 third set lead, the Viqueens stayed close for a majority of the set and used a late push to trail 21-18 before Eagleville scored the final four points to close out the match.
The Viqueens open District 8-AA play with an intra-county match at Cascade on Thursday.
