UNIONVILLE — After winning their first meeting earlier this month against Forrest, Community strengthened its stranglehold on the District 9-2A lead by completing the sweep on Thursday night in a 3-2 thriller against the Lady Rockets.
Taylar Wessner got the nod in the circle for the Purple and Gold and sat the Lady Rockets down in order to start the game.
In the bottom of the first inning, Community pounced on Lady Rocket starter Taylor Moreland and led off with three-straight singles from Anna Haskins, Mattie Maxey and Haylee Webb, with Webb’s single to right driving home the first two runs of the evening.
Wessner kept the Lady Rockets on lockdown and only gave up a single baserunner through the first three innings, which came on a two-out double in the top of the second.
Forrest cut the Viqueen lead in half in the top of the fourth when Moreland helped her own cause with a lead-off solo shot to left.
The momentum was short-lived as Community struck back with a dinger of its own off the bat of Carlie Blanton to once again take a two-run lead.

Forrest had a chance to do some serious damage in the top of the sixth with three-straight singles and again knocked in a run, this time on a RBI single from Ella Chilton.
But after Forrest knocked in a second run, Wessner recorded three-straight outs to work out of the jam.
Haskins and Maxey led Community, both going 2-for-3, while Blanton’s solo homer was the biggest hit of the night.
In the pitcher’s circle, Wessner out-dueled Moreland and gave up two earned runs on six hits, while striking out six.
Moreland gave up three runs on seven hits and struck out 11 Viqueen batters.
The win improves the Viqueens to 4-0 in league standings, with just three district games left on the schedule.
