FAYETTEVILLE — A strong second quarter and a 26-point effort by Anna Haskins landed the Community Viqueens their first win of the season on Tuesday night at Fayetteville City.
The Purple and Gold put three in double figures and withstood a fourth-quarter surge by the hosts to take the 59-50 win.
Community grabbed an early 13-10 lead, but built a double-digit lead by halftime thanks to an 18-point second-quarter effort.
In the second, Haskins took over and scored 11 of her game-high 26 points to carry a 31-18 lead into the half.
Fayetteville rallied in the third quarter and went on a 16-9 run and made good on four treys in the second half to cut Community’s lead to four points after three quarters.
Despite being outscored 16-9 in the third quarter, the Viqueens answered with a 19-point fourth quarter to slam the door shut on Fayetteville’s comeback try and preserve the 10-point win.
In the fourth, Alyssa White scored seven of her 15 points and as a team, the Viqueens made 8-of-10 attempts at the free throw line.
For the game, Community finished 16-of-20 at the line.
Joining Haskins and White in double figures was Brooklyn Yoes, who finished with 10 points.
The Viqueens continue their week on Friday and will play at Harpeth before returning to Unionville on Monday for the home opener against Mt. Pleasant.
