UNIONVILLE — The Community Viqueens were running on all cylinders as the Viqueens connected on 14 three-pointers and all 12 players on the roster scored as Community defeated the Santa Fe Lady Wildcats 82-40 in a Hall of Champions basketball contest Friday night.
After the Lady Wildcats took their only lead at 3-2 in the first minute of the game, the Viqueens went on a 13-0 run and never looked back.
Brooklyn Yoes scored nine of the points during the run with three treys as Community (1-1) led 15-3 with 4:20 left in the opening quarter.
Yoes finished with 11 points in the quarter and for good measure, Savannah Pearson drilled a couple of three-pointers and scored eight points as the Viqueens took a commanding 27-13 lead to the second quarter.
The Viqueens added to their lead with two three-pointers in the quarter and spread the wealth as seven players reached the scoring column.
Community outscored the Lady Wildcats 20-7 and took a 47-20 lead into the intermission.
Madisyn Hill drilled two treys for the Viqueens in the third quarter as five different Community players connected on three-pointers.
The Viqueens added to their advantage with 22 points as Community took a 69-35 lead to the final quarter.
With substitutes getting most of the playing time in the quarter, the Viqueen defense moved to the forefront.
Community scored the final 11 points of the game while the Lady Wildcats could only score five points in the first minute of the quarter as the Viqueens finished with the 42-point win in their home opener.
Yoes scored 17 points and Pearson added 14 to lead the Viqueens.
Nora Kate Butt led all scorers with 18 points and Addison Prince added 13 to lead Santa Fe.
“It was a fun night on offense and we played hard on defense and rebounded really well,” Coach Cody Pierce of the Viqueens said.
“The whole team shot well and it wasn’t just two or three players and it didn’t matter who touched it.”
“We’ve seen that in practice for three weeks now,” Pierce added. “It’s really nice when your whole team scores.”
With the entire team involved in the scoring, Community should have a strong bench to back up its starters this season.
“We have a lot of players that can play. Every night if you’re playing well, you’re going to get quite a bit of playing time, but it’s nice to have a deep bench like that,” Pierce said.  “If somebody’s off one night, somebody else can step up and not just one person.”
The Viqueens will participate in the Cornersville Thanksgiving Tournament and will face Hickman County in their opening game on Monday.
Community will play three games on consecutive days in the tournament.
