Viqueens roll in home opener

UNIONVILLE — The Community Viqueens were clicking on all cylinders in their home basketball opener Monday night as the Viqueens put up three impressive offensive quarters and led from start to finish in a 67-33 win over the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers.ense as eight Community players scored in the first half.
White scored nine points in the opening quarter while Haskins had six points and Taylar Wessner added five as the Viqueens scored the first six points of the game and jumped out to a 13-2 lead with 4:50 left.
Community finished the quarter with a 26-13 advantage.
White added six points in the second quarter while Haskins, Stevie Dickenson, and Brooklyn Yoes each had a trey as the Viqueens spread the wealth.  Community outscored the Lady Tigers 17-8 in the quarter and took a 43-21 lead into the intermission.
“We did have a good flow on offense,” Coach Cody Pierce of the Viqueens said. “We were making good passes and getting good looks.”
The Viqueens continued their onslaught by scoring the first 14 points of the third quarter.
Wessner netted 12 points while White added eight around the basket as Community increased its lead to 65-29 heading to the final quarter.
The game ended with a running clock as all the Viqueens on the roster saw action in the quarter.
“We struggled on defense the last couple of games, and that’s been our focus,” Pierce said. “In the second half, I challenged us to hold them to under 35 and we did that.”
White scored 25 points and Haskins added 21 to lead the Viqueens.
Addison Workman and Ki’Yanna Armstrong each had nine points to pace the Lady Tigers.
Both teams were 6-of-11 from the free throw line.
“They work hard, they’re coachable kids, and they want to win now,” Pierce said.  “I know we’re young, but I can feel like we can do something big this year.”
