COALMONT — In the final week of the regular season, the Community Viqueens climbed the District 9-AA ranks and won three of their final district games of the season to finish as the No. 2 seed, following Friday night’s 50-42 win at Grundy County.
The win was the second against the Lady Jacket in as many nights, with the stellar effort from Anna Haskins.
The Viqueen sophomore pitched in a game-high 33 points, 23 of which came in the second half.
After falling behind by four at halftime, the Viqueens used an 11-0 run to spark the second-half surge, but it wasn’t until a 20-9 run in the fourth that Community was able to put the game away.
Haskins dominated the second half and relied on timely 3-point shooting, as well as the ability to get to the line, where she made good on 6-of-10 attempts in the second half alone.
The two teams battled to a 12-12 tie by the end of the first, but Community went cold from the floor in the second and managed just one field goal from Haskins, while Jayla Mangrum chipped in a pair of free throws.
Grundy County didn’t fare much better, totaling just eight points in the second quarter.
While Grundy County had no answer for Haskins, Grundy County relied on a balanced offense against Community on Friday.
Carlee Smartt and Kasadee Crabtree each scored 13, while Kallie Parson scored 10.
With the conclusion of Friday night’s final District 9-AA game of the regular season, No. 2 seed Community will draw No. 3 seed Cascade in the semifinal round of the district tournament on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
