Viqueens take 2nd in Zion Christian Tourney

STAFF REPORT
It was a busy slate of games over the weekend for the Community Viqueens, who went 3-1 in the Zion Christian Tournament.
In their three wins, the Viqueens had the offense rolling, outscoring their opponents 37-10.

GAME 1
Kicking off the tournament, the Viqueens made quick work of Hickman County, taking a 12-3 win in three innings.
Carlie Blanton led the way, going 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, while Jayla Mangrum drove home two more.
Taylar Wessner took the win in the pitcher’s circle, striking out eight batters, while allowing three runs on four hits.

GAME 2
Following up Friday’s blowout victory, the Viqueens piled up another huge win thanks to a hot start, crushing Spring Hill 12-2.
The Viqueens combined for 11 hits and were led by Wessner, who went 1-for-2 with a three-run blast in the eight-run first frame.
Anna Haskins took the win in the circle and pitched two innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits, while striking out four.

GAME 3
In their second game on Saturday, the Viqueen bats stayed hot with a 10-5 win over Richland. Four Viqueens had a three-hit game against the Lady Raiders.
Alana Tate went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer in the top of the fifth, while Kailani Allen went 3-for-3, finishing the game a home run shy of the cycle.
Annie Prince pitched four innings and struck out four, while giving up one earned run on three hits.

GAME 4
In the final game of the tournament, Community took an early lead, but Zion Christian plated two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to hand Community it’s only loss of the tournament, 4-1.
After Annie Prince sat the Lady Eagles down in order in the first inning, Alana Tate connected on a one-out single in the bottom of the first and scored in the next at-bat when Carlie Blanton laced a single to right.
Although the Viqueens held the early lead over Zion Christian, a RBI triple and a sac-fly allowed the Lady Eagles to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth.
A solo homer and a RBI single in the fifth padded the Zion lead to 4-1.
Blanton went 2-for-3 and drove home the only run of the game for the Purple and Gold.
Prince went 4 2/3 innings before Wessner took over and pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for Community, striking out four in the process.
