LYNCHBURG — A three-run seventh-inning rally wasn’t enough for Cascade as the Lady Champs fell at Moore County on Wednesday evening, 6-5.
Trailing 6-2 and down to their final three outs, Cascade took advantage of an error and four consecutive walks in the top of the seventh to make a run at the Raiderette lead.
Claire Perry and Vera Wells both drew bases-loaded walks to score two and Alayna Cruse hit a sac-fly to bring in a third Lady Champion run in the inning.
Having cut the lead to one run, Cascade wasn’t able to tie the game as relief pitcher Kinsley Miller was able to get the final out with a line out to second base.
Hits were far and few between for both teams, with Cascade and Moore County combining for just three hits.
Brianna Horn went the distance for Cascade and pitched all six innings, giving up just one hit and striking out 13.
Moore County also drew 14 walks and drove in six runs off Horn.
At the plate, Momo Bilbro and Katelyn Lambert recorded the only hits for the Lady Champs, with Bilbro connecting on a first-inning double to drive in the first Cascade run of the game.
Moore County answered and plated three in the bottom of the first and tacked on two more in the second before an error and a sac-fly brought home a second Lady Champ score in the third inning.
