Wartrace Horse Show Set to Celebrate 119th Year

For many in Bedford County, the words “let’em walk on” stirs something deep in the heart—a reminder that our Tennessee Walking Horse industry is alive and thriving. That unmistakable tradition gallops back into town Saturday, Aug. 2, at 6 p.m. with the 119th annual Wartrace Horse Show—the longest-running one-night walking horse show in the United States.

Steeped in history, the Wartrace Horse Show is more than just an event. It’s a legacy. It was there that Strolling Jim, rode by Floyd Carothers, began his journey to fame, ultimately becoming the first World Grand Champion in 1939 at The Celebration. And since then, Wartrace has remained a proud training ground for countless champions preparing to take the national stage. This year promises another incredible show filled with top-tier competition, local flavor, and family fun. Show Judge Scott Beaty of Brydstown, TN, will preside over the ring, ensuring a top-notch experience for spectators and competitors alike.

“We’re really excited for this year’s show,” said Show Manager Dana Rodriguez,  “The forecast looks great, the entries are strong, and we’re expecting a wonderful night for families and fans of all ages.”

Little ones can even bring their stick horses and “walk on” in their own way, soaking in the magic of a tradition passed down through generations. And don’t miss the legendary concession stand, offering a true taste of the South, including country-ham sandwiches, Garrison Valley hamburgers, all-beef hot dogs, Whitt’s BBQ, Domino’s Pizza, and of course, homemade desserts.

Whether you come for the horses, the history, or the homemade pie—the Wartrace Horse Show looks forward to the crowd. Let’em walk on!

Box seats for six are available for $60  and can be purchased in advance or at the showgrounds on Saturday night.
