Young goes for 25, leads Lady Champs past Forrest

BELL BUCKLE — The Cascade Lady Champions got a big night from Kaegan Young and were able to lock down their first district win of the season on Friday night, beating Forrest 58-42.
While the first quarter was hard-fought on both ends of the court, Cascade erased a slim Lady Rocket lead with 10-0 run to take a 13-6 lead with just over two minutes left in the period.
Senior Sophie Ray hit scored four points, including a pair of free throws, while Young and Kaydence Miller both hit 3-pointers.
After the first period, Cascade led 15-9.
The game continued to be closely contested, notably after Cascade’s offense went cold in the second period.
Forrest’s Camreigh Warner hit a 3-pointer with 4::21 left in the half to pull the Lady Rockets back within six points.
But Cascade answered with a 9-2 run to lead 28-14 with 1:55 left.
Lady Rocket senior Kinslee Inlow hit a 3-pointer with 1:28 left to pull Forrest back within 11.
In the third quarter however, Young took over the game and answered a couple of quick baskets that pulled Forrest within five points by the 6:35 mark.
Young rattled off eight points in the quarter and was able to weave through the Forrest defense to pad the Lady Champion lead.
In total, five Lady Champs scored in the quarter, allowing Cascade to maintain its double-digit lead.
In the fourth quarter however, Cascade was held to just two baskets from the floor, but was frequented the free throw line to the tune of 9-of-12 tries in the quarter to secure the win.
As a team, Cascade cashed in on 13-of-17 tries.
Young led all scorers with 25 points, while Ray added 10.
Josie Brown was the top scorer for Forrest and finished with 12 points.
